The creative act is not performed by the artist alone; the spectator brings the work in contact with the external world by deciphering and interpreting its inner qualifications and thus adds his contribution to the creative act – Marcel Duchamp.

Extension is a process-based and context specific, performative drawing work. Employing the use of video, photography, and performance, the work involves planned walks through public/private spaces, where the line of the walk is recorded using a ‘sculptural drawing tool’. The interactions with the public, and navigations through the architecture of public/private spaces, are documented through 35mm slide photography, where the documentation of the process is integral to the work.

Extension has been carried out in various contexts and locations, and exists in multiple formats. Locations/exhibitions include: ARGOS, Centre for Art & Media, curated by Katerina Gregos, Brussels, 2008; EV+A, Limerick City Gallery of Art, curated by Katerina Gregos, 2006; Precaution, The Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin, 2005; Four lights 4, Letterkenny Arts Centre, curated by John Cunningham, 2004; Gallery 24, curated by ArtForum Belfast, Berlin, 2004, and The University of Ulster, Belfast, 2005.
